09: Episode 10 : Skating in the
boardroom -
Task analysis
27 March 2007Last two
episodes
I didn't make any recap for the
last two episodes. So, I just want to make some quick
comment here. Sad to see Surya get fired. Not a big fan of
him, but it seems like he didn't make lot of mistakes during
his departure.
And I don't think Muna pledged her case very well. Because
there is no way you can become and actor and direct at the
same time. Hello, we are talking about amateur actress here.
Tim & Nicole
Tim and Nicole are the stars of
this season. Not because they are really good during the
task (it doesn't mean that they were not contributing), but
their hippy love story keep getting on and on every episode.
This episode, they were separated
by James. I will do the same if I was James. Simple logic.
If you send Frank or Stefani over to Kinetic, then you get
stuck with one more person and lovey-dovey couple.
But I should say that their love
story is kinda cool, and funny too. Just see when Tim try to
cheer up Nicole, he simply tell her to put all of this
behind them while chewing the gum. I meant, come on, just to
ask for forgiven, a character in One Tree Hill or OC will do
amazing and romantic thing to his girlfriend, while on the
real world, man act like Tim!
The task
Enough of mumbling nonsense, let us
get straight to the business.
Why did Kinetic lose? And did
Angela really deserved to be fired?
Nicole came up with an idea. I
thought it was good when on the paper, they said that they
will have a better radius. But during the task
implementation, they were just going around the Arrow's
booth. That was the first mistake. Did not utilize the
roller skate that they wore.
Again, I do believe that Nicole was
too excited about the idea. I am not sure whether Kinetic
made some promotion or not, but we can see that Arrow made
some banner saying that you can get certain dollars off if
you do this and that (I can't read because it was too fast,
but the point is, they came up with a promotion).
Arrow didn't have any.
Arrow did not asked themselves
whether roller skating was the best idea instead of booth.
Remember, we can buy the sign of 'no salesman' from the
supermarket, but we cannot stop the housewives from going to
supermarket during sales. Going to one person to another is
a bad idea for selling something expensive.
There was a lot of selling task in
Apprentice, such as selling chocolate. Using roller skate
seems to be efficient because everyone with even 20 bucks in
his pocket might be interested to buy one. But to buy
something with high price, it is not really efficient to go
from one person to another. In the real world, we can see
that ice-cream seller in ice-cream van sell more than vacuum
cleaner salesman, in term of quantity.
Nicole had been saying about using
sexuality to attract customer. Again, it is not working for
high price things. Nobody think this way, 'that girl looks
hot, let's see what she sells', except if you are looking
for a hooker. That is why Arrow failed miserably this task.
Boardroom
One thing that I noticed this
season is someone who gave a bad idea wasn't the one to be
blame (refer to Tim's idea in the episode where Surya was
fired). And I somehow agree with the system.
Arrow's brainstorming session was
poor. One idea by Nicole, they got excited and that was it.
And was Angela deserved to be
fired? I say yes, because when they were facing the problem
created by Arrow, there was not any backup plan. When they
realize that they are having a problem with it, project
manager should be the one coming up with Plan B. And then,
if she want to say in the boardroom that Nicole's idea is
sucks, also saying that they were forced to come up with a
backup plan, that is the time she will remain in the game
and Nicole would be the one to go.
