For your information,
while I'm writing this, I'm currently studying in Brunel
University, West London. So-called West London but it's
located in Zone 6. What is Zone 6? Okay let's keep the ball
rolling. Preparation in
your origin country
What to bring and what shouldn't?
Here is the list with some explanation. First thing, bear in
mind, bringing too much thing will make your bag heavy,
harder to move around on your first day, while bringing less
thing will result in frustration if you forgot something
important.
Bring this
| 1 |
Toiletries |
These are the cheap stuff in our origin country. You
don't want to pay 4-5 times the price when you buy
it in here. But just bring it for the stock of 1
month. Means, not too much. |
| |
Syampoo, toothbrush,
toothpaste, hair gel... |
| 2 |
Kitchen utensil |
| |
Knife, forks
and spoon, frying pan |
| 3 |
Stationery |
| |
Don't bring too much
paper. But don't forget to bring stapler, glue,
cellophane tape, pens, pencils, ruler... |
| 4 |
Clothes |
| 5 |
Clothes for
winter |
| |
Make sure you
have one nice sweater/jacket that can goes with any
cloth. One is enough actually if you don't mind
wearing the same for first few weeks. Honestly, it
is much better to bring one and get another one or
two here. Because you
don't want to feel left out wearing something that's
not in-trend here. (Note: I finally give up the
temptation and spend £30 in the after-Christmas
sale). Because if you still want to save some money,
there is a lot of charity shop here. Can get it for
around £5.
But to be safe, make it two
sweater. |

Shoes |
| |
Shoes is one
of the important thing. When it is getting cold, you
surely wish you have a thick shoes that can warm up
your feet. But then, you also need to get a shoes
that won't get wet if it's raining. So, there're two
main point of choosing a pair of shoes. Safe from
cold and safe from rain.
I bought pair of insulated
socks from Tesco and it cost me £5. You might want
to get it in your country if it's cheaper. |
| 7 |
Food stock |
| |
Get food stock
for few days because it may be a little bit hard to
adjust and to find suitable food to eat after you
arrive. But make sure the size is minimal |
| 8 |
Digital camera |
| 9 |
Some other stuff that you think you may need it |
Don't bring. Buy in UK
Compare the price
| |
Laptop/ Notebook |
| |
I compare the price of laptop in my country and
in here. Not much different but a little bit cheaper
in my country
Currys and
PcWorld are pretty popular for selling computers
and other electronic stuff. You can visit their
website, check the price and make a comparison |
These are the things I could remember at this moment.
Make sure you make some effort to think it on your own eh...
*Once, there is rules stating that
traveler is not allowed to bring liquid things into UK, as
they had believe there is some sort of liquid that may
explode. This term apply to your baggage on board, means the
one you bring with you. You can put liquid thing like
toothpaste or hair gel in check-in baggage and it should be
fine.
Accommodation
One of the big issue because UK
Visa Department says that they want to see the proof of
accommodation. So, it's better for you to have some secure
place to live here. People say that you will need few days
before finding a house because usually it takes the process
of viewing, the landlord/person who stay there pick you and
eliminate who he/she doesn't like such in The Bachelor.
(Note: I was lucky because I didn't
have secure place to stay but found a house on my first day.
My landlord said, it is impossible actually to come and move
in on the first day)
But usually the university/college
will provide accommodation for at least a year. But the
bottom line, don't miss the dateline of paying the deposit
for accommodation (which I miss, and that's why). |
