Applying for Visa

Visa

Do you think you need a visa to come here? This is the site you must visit: UKVisas (http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/)

Here, I'm going to tell you my experience of getting UK Visa. There's not much UK Embassy around a country. For Malaysia itself, people in northern part has to go to Kuala Lumpur to deal with this matter (in 2006, not sure now).

Don't worry, if you prepare things they ask, so you can simply get the visa. But some of people who were rejected is because of this reason.

  1. Not enough document
You should think this way. They make this visa thing to make sure that you are going there for a purpose (studying/working). So you have to prove it. Let say that you are lack of official letters, such as your university unconditional offer letter will arrive in few weeks, so you can simply give the conditional offer letter together with the document, and attach a letter that you write on your own telling why you cannot provide the unconditional letter, which is because it takes time; and you can also print out the email you received from the university. Make such effort to avoid disappointment.
  2. Incomplete form
Read every single page, make a list of things you need to do, and make sure you fill everything up

Getting a visa is pretty annoying job because they ask for too much things. And make sure you read especially about the fee part. Because if you bring somebody else over (your spouse and children for example), you will be charged based on the application, not number of people going. You don't want to pay more than you should.

How long does is takes to get a visa? I surf the net and found too many answers. Some say few months. Some say few days. And my friend told me that someone was having problem with his application.

So, I guess it must be different for each case and each place. As for myself, after I applied, I got my visa in 2 working days, if I'm not mistaken. So, that is good. But do not expect this as a general case. To secure yourself, you should apply as early as you could.
