So, should you rent a car and go
around London or use the public transportation? I read
somewhere that also agree with my view - take a public
transportation.
Reason:
1. Traffic jam is annoying. And if you don't have GPS
system, you may get stuck. And London has a Congestion
Charge, means that if you pass a certain road, you have to
pay the charge.
2. Most of the place in London can be reached by public
transportation
Cheaper way to travel
There is a package which provide
you few days travel pass which you can use it to board a
tube/bus and go to some interesting place.
But basically, this is the price
that you may want to compare. So that, if you can find a
cheaper ticket, you will choose for that.
Bus single journey without Oyster
card - £2
Bus single journey with Oyster card - £1
Single day travel pass without Oyster card - £6.70*
Single day travel pass with Oyster card - £6.20*

Oyster Card
You can get Oyster card from lot of
shop around UK. You topup the card, and whenever you board a
public transportation, you touch your card at a particular
place. Then it will deduct your credit.
*Single day travel pass
The price shown above might be
inaccurate as from January 2007, the price of single journey
had been increase, so might the travel pass. And the price
above is for Zone 1-6. If you go around London only, then
getting a travel pass from Zone 1-4 is more than enough.
Check which zone the place you're going to go is.
Off peak and On peak
I'm imagining a person who live outside
of London, planning to come here for a day or two. Don't
think that by coming on weekday, it will give you more
pleasure. I don't know in term of number of crowd. But it
may
not efficient for your money because Single Day Travelcard
can be used only for off-peak hours (9.30a.m. - 4.30a.m.) if
you plan to come earlier than that. But usually 9.30a.m is
not really bad time to start your day traveling as too many
people are catching up train to work before that.
They do have whole day Single Day Travelcard for weekday but
it will cost you more (in case you want to travel earlier).
Zone?
London has 6 zones. If you travel
in the same zone, it's going to be the lowest price
regardless how many kilometers you had taken (not sure with
taxi, coz never take that). If you travel to the other zone,
you have to pay more.
Sometimes it looks harder to get to
a certain place by tube. But it is in the same zone, they
usually have a bus going from one place to another which can
save lot more time than using tube.

The bottom line
Honestly, there is too much way of
traveling in London. Emphasizing on 'money', it means that
you have to surf the net and check out the best price.W Sometimes, taking a
travel pass from a certain company will give you more
benefit. So, kinda tricky there.
